Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal and credit information.
Who This Policy Covers
This policy applies to Mortgage Broker Mackay (ABN 35 361 524 667), Mackay, QLD 4740. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles and, because we handle credit information, Part IIIA of that Act and the Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code.
What We Collect
To assess a loan application and recommend a lender we generally need your name and contact details, date of birth, identification documents, employment and income details, assets, liabilities and living expenses, bank and credit account information, and details of the property involved.
We collect credit information and credit eligibility information as those terms are defined in the Privacy Act, including information from credit reporting bodies about your credit history, and information about applications you have made.
We collect most of it directly from you. We may also collect it from credit reporting bodies, lenders, your employer or accountant where you have authorised that, and from your referrer where one introduced you.
Why We Collect It
To assess what you can borrow, to identify which schemes and concessions you qualify for, to recommend and arrange credit, to meet our responsible lending and best interests duty obligations, to comply with anti-money-laundering and identity verification law, and to respond to you.
If you do not provide the information we ask for, we may not be able to assess your situation or arrange finance for you.
Who We Disclose It To
With your consent, we disclose your information to lenders and their mortgage insurers, to our aggregator and licensee, to credit reporting bodies, to valuers, and to your conveyancer, solicitor, accountant or broker where relevant to the application.
We do not sell your information. We do not disclose it to overseas recipients as a matter of ordinary practice; where a lender or service provider stores data overseas, that is governed by their own privacy policy and we will tell you if it applies to your application.
Direct Marketing
We may contact you about your application and about products relevant to it. You can opt out of marketing at any time by replying to any message or by calling us on (07) 4849 4617, and we will stop.
How We Hold It
We hold information in electronic systems protected by access controls and, where records are held in paper form, in secure storage. We keep it only as long as we need it or as long as the law requires, and we destroy or de-identify it after that.
Access, Correction and Complaints
You can ask for access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Call us on (07) 4849 4617. We respond within a reasonable period and there is no charge for making the request.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first and we will investigate it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can take the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, or to our external dispute resolution scheme.
